I did some road bike tours with Algarve Bike Holidays and really enjoyed the experience. We were taken on quiet country roads and experienced the real Portugal, away from the tourist resorts.

It's easy to rent a bike over here, even it's only for one day. All employees really want to help you and willing to give alternative information. Last but not least, it's cheap to rent a bike compared to other bike rental shops. The (mountain)bike I rented was a high quality bike and in a very good condition.

We have just completed the Spanish border to Cap St Vincent trip with Algarve Bike folk, and it was excellent. Distances were fine for a pair of late 70 year olds, although if we would have known how much rough stone/gravel track was involved then we would have asked for a pair of MTBs with 2-ish tires. High pressure road tires were very skittish on the rough stuf, and the endless cobbles the Portuguese go in for..The bikes provided were generic hybrids, with sort of old style North Road bars, that make it a bit hard to get out of the saddle for the worst of the hills.....but a step thu for Madam was appreciated. The gearing was fine for us, but geared for about 15 mph in top, which was absolutely fine for National Route hard shoulders, and if the surface was not too rough then the granny gear end was fine too.Finding the right position on the pedal without clips or cleats was a bit hit and miss, but most folk wouldnt mind this at allThe GPS system was excellent, and one could relax navigation wise, EXCEPT.....when arriving a bit weary at the hotel, 4 times out of 6, it was the wrong hotel. The chaps could revise the nav to take this into account, but havnt done so.They could also add a warning that at X kms to go, on the GPS screen, take this/that road instead of the screen indicated route. This lead to the next problem, in that the Route Notes were not numbered for each days ride. They could be marked Day One/1, Day One/2 etc, but are just all jumbled up, and again, at the end of the day, when it could be windy too, trying to find just which sheet goes with which day, caused a lot of aggro. At least staple each day together!Finding the hotel ended up with the help of the iPhone. The hotels were a mix of pleasantly basic, and poshish 4 star, with the Golf resorts being the latter..All the buffet breakfasts allowed for the fullest of pre-ride bellies, that were inevitably empty again come 1.30-ish.Most of the hotels were close to restaurants at the end of the day, that worked pretty well tooSo no gripes at all except as listed above, and meeting one of the partners, Fred was excellent. They make a great effort to make sure you are up to speed with everything, and answer texts very promptly.Thoroughly recommended as a Tour company, as we have had years of experience with the bigger ones, and also had years of experience of doing it all ourselves....and camping tooA great way to see the whole of the AlgarveBC.......May 22nd 2018

We took a private tour this week to Messines with Marco. We couldnt fault it. We had risen this route before but we had friends with us and wanted to give them a different Algarve experience. We started with a puncture which Marco changed at brake neck speed, followed by a safety briefing and explanation of what we could expect on the ride. A local, Marco pointed out many interesting facts and I have to mention the fantastic coffee and homemade cake stop. If you love getting off the beaten track, no one does it better than Marco and Algarve bike holidays. THANK YOU
